where i live .... keeping rabbits is illegal :(

-sigh-

so cute... i want one.
Rabbit are really excellent company. I've been so happy since Akiko came unexpectedly into my life, and Houka, while an endless headache, is also a real personality. Unfortunately, rabbits can spread diseases that are found in some countries, generally through fleas. They're like little, non-predatory cats. Are indoor rabbits an exception to the rule?

As a child, my brother wanted a turtle so badly. We tried for years to get one, but keeping thme was illegal in many of the places we lived. I made the mistake of promising him a puppy when he had his own home, and over ten years later, he reminds me of it regularly.

mm indeed... rabbits here are in plague proportions in the south .... and as such .... illegal up here in the north. ... but not in the south ^_^ .... i have a kitty, and some snakeees.... but even with snakes, Australia's reptile laws are some of the world's strictest. We may keep only native australian varieties.. which means we routinely pay upwards of $1000 for Green Tree Pythons, which sell for around $400 in the US and Europe .... also I want a corn snake and some vipers..... they'z so purty ^_^
Get out there with a net on a stick, then!

When I was young I had neighbours with many pets. They had a cornsnake which escaped, and which they rediscovered living in their fireplace several years later. it had been under the rugs, they suspect.

Australia also had problems with myxomatosis, didn't it?

This might be catastrophic.
yeah ... i think we spread it on purpose to try to cull the rabbit population... don't think it went too well.
A net on a stick would be fine... 'xcept we have no corn snakes or vipers here..... no non-native snakes here at all .... which is fine... but some foreign species are soooo pretty ^_^
I suppose we're learning from our attempts to introduce foreign species (*cough*zebramussels*cough*) and the damage it can wreak. But, of course, tell someone not to do something, and what's first on their mind...?
